If you have any questions regarding the British Council of Kali Eskrima Arnis Instructors, then by all means post them here and we will do our best to answer them.
Best regards
Pat |

Hey Pat,
I have two questions that are bugging me.
What are the roles and responsibilities of the officers and members?
That is the only thing I see missing with all the info I can find on the BCKEAI or have I missed the info somewhere?
In the BCKEAI events section you are advertising the 2nd FMA festival for X amount dollars (which to me is all good),
But as a non- profit organization where is all the money going to?
Please don’t take these questions the wrong way, I just want to know what I am talking about when I help Clint and I can confidently answer honestly these questions if they arise. If you know what I mean. |

Well the power is shared equally and all decisions have to be unanimous, but different people have also taken on basic admin roles so advertising is one persons specific job role although others if given the opportunity can obviously advertise etc...
It helps give order to a group. so if something needs to be done you pass it in a specific direction, but if they cannot do it someone else usually volunteers anyway it is not set in stone.
Put it this way, Pat is the Vice President and official spokesman, so it is Pat that liases with the other organisations around the world, this is his strong point and it makes sense not to have too many different people talking to different people as confusion would arise.
Basically the President cannot make a discision all on his own, he has to have the backing of the rest of the board.
The money from the FMA festival, being the only commercial event that the British Council hosts at the moment is fee based to accumilate money for the running of the council for the year, expenses are paid to each teaching instructor the hall and advertising needs to be paid for and a certain percentage (yet to be decided) will be given to charity. Any other funds raised in the future, e.g. merchandising....badges, video's of the festival etc will be allocated to a slush fund which after costs have been deducted the profits will be allocated to a worthy charity, yet to be decided. Basically any profits after expenses will go to charity.
The organisation is non-profit making, the instructors are self-employed and have there own organisations outside the British Council which are not effected by the council. They are comming together for two days a year to show unity and promote the FMA. During the year, the Instructors are helping to support each other through different ways like advertising for each others events and stuff like that. Advertising each others clubs, passing on leads to each other, it really has changed things for the better. For the first time we are showing unity amongst the styles.
We were hoping to donated to a street kids charity in the PI and we will also choose a charity here in the UK too or perhaps choose different charities each year. We are just trying to find one in the PI that gives the majoirty of the funds to the street kids. It is prooving quite difficult, it is not a case of just picking one there is quite a bit of corruption within some of the charities in the PI.
There are no membership fees for the council, it is a public service that we want to provide to help people find authentic clubs etc.
The first year was sponsored by Eskrimador supplies for websites and advertising and stuff like that but this year we want the Festival to fund the future running of the council although we will happily accept any sponsors if they are interested. Donations for charity will be welcome, but wait until it is all set up, which should be in the next month or so.
Any other questions please ask away, I will do my best to answer them. Although Pat and Peter are usually the best spokesmen for the council.
Don't feel bad asking any questions about the council, how can we take it the wrong way when we have nothing to hide and if you do not ask you will never know.
Love Lucy |

Thank you Lucy for your explanation and i understand it fully now.
I have been on committees before like the health and safety commitee at work and they have roles and responsibilities for each member as such and I noticed the BCKEAI didnt have it,But you have explained well enough for me to understand and be confident to tell others, thank you.
And an awesome explaination on where the money is going. Thanks again.
writing things down in forums can sometimes be mistakingly the wrong way as in how the person is asking questions as in the tone ectect.Thats why i said please dont take this the wrong way,Just in case i came out the wrong way(i think you know what i mean aye lol).
Thanks again Lucy |
