i'm wondering which format you guys think should fit better for a first event if you were to set up one in a place where there have never been any ?
padded stick ?(WSKA format )
padded stick with punching & kicking as well ?
full contact rattan stick WEKAF rules
black eagles NHB format ?
black eagles stickfighting only ?
anything else ? |

Hey brother MFG,
As a new sport as such i would concentrate on the lesser violent formats. And promote the WEKAF & WASKA formats.
I would suggest that each FMA club have 1 day a month open as have a go day for stickfighting,so you get more people interested and when you do have a Tournament you will have the numbers to justify a tournament.
I would say you have a choice of two formats.
padded stick ?(WSKA format )
and
full contact rattan stick WEKAF rules
Most FMA's have experienced WEKAF style of fighting,so i would say concentrate on this format.you can find the rules on the WEKAF format on the wekaf site. There is a link to there site on the WEKAF format thread.
Get togeather with all the clubs that are going to participate and give each club a copy of the rules and have a good chin wag.make sure you have referee's sorted before the event and you have someone to oversee everything on the day.
I would also have a fun event where you try out the soft stick format, where you just have a play.to get familar with the rules ectect
I would introduce the following once you have a base format structured on the other formats. As these next formats are a bit more hardcore for the average person or have them as an invitation only, which correct me if i am wrong that is the black eagle way.
padded stick with punching & kicking as well ?
black eagles NHB format
black eagles stickfighting only
Me rambled enough, hope this has helped mate |

| thanks for this well documented answer man, it goes the same way of what i thought, but here in france, most people(which mean not that many anyway) that have tried some kind of FMA sparring so far have chosen the padded stick format ,sometimes using some kickboxing moves to mix with...............but as we're trying to set up our french FMA council, hopefully in the futur we'll have the matter of a stick fighting tournament or sprot FMA to discuss ..........hence my question |

Sweet brother,
Glad to help.
So the French Have to be differant to everyone else (soft stick more so than WEKAF)
If i was you converse with Pat and cut and paste the basic soft stick rules that are on the forum.have a get togeather with these other people have a good chin wag and play with the rules, and have a dummy tournament as in no trophys, just friends at the end of the day.this way you will find out what works and dosnt.
Just holla back if you need any more help Brother.
Ps also if you need help with your french council give us a holla on the CKEAI thread.
Take care brother ,happy organizing |

Well from a sporting aspect I would start with WEKAF, then WASA (my favorite) then padded stick with kicks and punches, then Black Eagle with no kicks and punches then finally the full Black Eagle NHB format.
Break them in easy as the final ones tend to scare people off.
And any help you need setting up the French Council, just give us a call Bro
