Hi Peter

What're you planning on teaching ? (not that I can make it over Very Happy )

I'm interested as I'm starting to do a bit of teaching to beginners in our group.

Would you start with balangkas 1, or some of Lakbay?

Hi Mike

Great to hear from you an dto learn that the Brotherhood is expanding in NZ!

It depends a bit on the mixture of the group, but usually I start double cane as a warm up:

Magbabayo
Salok-Saboy
Baguhan
Langit at Lupa
Redonda
Redonda Salok-Saboy

These are done solo and then with a partner. Then:

Red Chain - Bukang Liwayway / De Cuerdas / Redonda
Blue Chain - De Cuerdas / Bukang Liwayway / Redonda Salok-Saboy
Black Chain - De Cuerdas / Redonda / Bukang Liwayway

Again, worked solo and with a partner. If they get that, I may get some working Red Vs Blue or single stick vs double. I show them that Bukang Liwayway is the first move of Redonda and De Cuerdas is the first move of Redonda Salok-Saboy. That helps them to understand the links in the chain drills.

Single cane will cover Balangkas 1, 2 or 3. I then take moves out of the Balangkas to develop fighting combinations... usually involving the guys running around hitting people. Laughing Laughing Laughing This can include crashing in with Tusok Sing-Sing into Magbabayo, or maybe Magbabayo, De Cuerdas Arriba, Bagsak. Also, combinations from Balangkas 10 - especially Bubuyog and Bulalakaw Bagsak.

Tulisan will usually include Alas, Kamandag and maybe Sabayan. I like to work Kamandag against a staff or double canes.

Throughout, I try to include some empty hand applications, but the general focus is towards effective fighting techniques and usually include a reasonable amount of sparring within the workshop.

Hope this helps, Mike. Take good care and my very best wishes to the gang.
