Invitation to the NZCKEAI New Zealand Stickfighting Championship
Christchurch 2008

The New Zealand Council of Kali Eskrima Arnis Instructors (NZCKEAI) would like to offer a warm invitation to the members of groups, clubs, associations or individuals who wish to compete in the NZCKEAI New Zealand Stickfighting Championship, to be held in Christchurch. The date of the event will be 25th and 26th October 2008.

Event organisers are focused on making this event the best possible experience for all competitors. The event is open to all Eskrimadors, men and women who wish to compete in single and double stick divisions, the “Kulata” division and form divisions. It is the wish of the NZCKEAI to host an event that enables competitors from numerous associations and backgrounds to come together in the spirit of good sportsmanship to compete at the championship.

The organisers are sincere in their effort to conduct the championship in a highly professional, fair, transparent and unbiased manner ensuring the highest levels of competitor satisfaction. To ensure this, Master Jenkins will not participate in the event and his responsibilities will be to organise and oversee the running of the event. The highly qualified Grandmaster Vince Palumbo will be the chief referee and judge. The timetable for the event is as follows.

Date Saturday 25th October :
Venue NZ Cacoy Doce Pares Headquarters, 11 Bernard St, Christchurch.
Time 11.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.
Details Competitor and Referee/Judges Workshop: Attendance by all competitors is required. Master Leigh Jenkins will cover all the details and procedures of the event. Grandmaster Vince Palumbo will conduct a referee/judges clinic. It is expected that all competitors will be referees and/or judges. All attendees will receive formal certification in refereeing and/or judging.
Time 1.30 p.m. to 3.30 p.m.
Details Stick Fighting Seminar: Grandmaster Vince Palumbo will conduct a seminar covering stick fighting techniques.

Date Sunday 26th October
Venue The Cashmere Club, 88 Hunter Tce, (Entrance off Colombo St), Christchurch.
Time 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Time 7.30 p.m. to 10.00 p.m.

To enable the confirmation of divisions, it is respectfully requested that expressions of interest are given by individuals or clubs (with member numbers) intention to participate in the event and attendance at the seminar as soon as possible.

Also, if accommodation in Christchurch is required over the weekend please advise the event organiser of the numbers and nights required. A bulk motel booking will be made at a local motel at a reduced rate for all competitors attending from out of town.

Sticks for use at the seminar and during the Championship will be provided. At this stage, all competitors are required to supply their own armour. Sponsorship and gaming machine grants for the tournament are in the process of being sought. If successful, and depending on the amount of funding obtained, armour may be provided for competitors use during the Championship.
