I have looked everywhere for cebuano language CD's or tapes, but cannot get them anywhere. I can find tagalog but not cebuano.

I would like to learn some basic conversation skills.

I saw some Dictionary's in 'The National Book Store' in the PI but I would not know where to start with one of them.

If anyone knows anywhere that I can get CD/books, can you let me know.

In the meantime, I see some of you on here can speak the language, so how about a few phrases to be getting on with. You can advise the tagalog transalation aswell if you like as we often visit Manila too.

We could have a weekly lesson.......... Laughing

Lots of love Razz

I can speak general Cebuano (also called Visayan) fluently. But I can't speak the reaally deep ones (like those that they have on the Cebuano Bibles! lol)....

I can translate here. Let me know what you wanna learn. (i'll see what i can do about audiotapes/cds....... they're not common... )

For example...

English: Good day to you all!

Tagalog: Magandang araw sa inyong lahat!
[mah-gan-DANG AH-raw sa in-YONG la-HAT]

Cebuano: Maayong adlaw kaninyong tanan!
[mah-AH-yong ad-LAW kah-NIN-yong ta-NAN]

Oh.. and make sure you pronounce the Fs as Ps, the Ps as Fs, the Vs as Bs and the Bs as Vs...... ehehehe.... j/k

I will have 4 San Miguels please.

Upat ka San Miguel palihug
[ooh-PAT kah SAN Meeg-EL pah-LEEH-hoog]

(Upat = 4, palihog = please)

I am not American so what is the real price?

Dili 'ko Kano! Unsa tinuod na presyo? (then smile as if you know what you're talkin about hehehe)
[deeh-LEE^ ko kah-NO^! OON-sah teeh-NOOH-ood nah PRES-yoh]

^ being a strong sudden cut off in the vowel... u know.. when you hear visayans/cebuanos speak with that really heavy-tongued accent... that's it. Its easier to show you than to describe it. ehehehe. It's what differentiates Cebuanos from all other dialects in the Phils. ehhehe

(Dili = not, 'ko (or ako) = I/me, Kano = AmeriKANO, unsa = what, tinuod = real, presyo = price)

Or.. instead of "Unsa tinuod na presyo?"... u can say...

Tagpila ba gyud?
or
Pila ba gyud?

[tag-PEEH-lah ba GYOOD]

(How much (is it), really?)

(Pila = how much, gyud = really)
