Hi,
In judo (in the UK at least) there are 2 ways to progress from brown belt to black.
The first is to fight in competitions over the course of 6 months and accumulate point (7 for wazari & 10 for ippon),when you have gained 70 points you are awarded 1st dan. (all the fights have to be against other gradees or black belts).
The other way is to fight a line-up of 10 people, one after the other, and win every fight.
(Goes to show why you never meet a poor judo black belt!)
They only let juniors grade up to green belt, but once they are big enough to fight adults, then they can grade at the appropriate level. One of the finest displays I have ever seen was a kid of about 16 who was about 8 stone tear through a line of 10 adults,in most impressive style, to earn his black belt.
Anyway, I was thinking about this the other day, when it came to me: "I could do that!"
What I would like to do is fight a line-up of 10 willing volunteers at this year's camp.
I fancy 10 x2minute rounds under Black Eagle rules, starting with the least experienced and ending with the highest grades. No breaks, just a whistle,a quick bow, then the next bout.
For those of you not in the know, the rules are basically: helmet, gloves and box, kicking, punching, grappling etc all permitted.
So if anyone fancies it copy and paste the list below into a reply and add your name.
(I don't think Louis is a member of the forum, so make sure you leave room for him!)
(By the way, I've started training specifically for it already!)

But by saying you are training specifically for this and then that you want the least experienced first.... you are probably going to deter a few of them as obviously you are going to be fresh on your first couple of fights and the least experienced will probably condsider you to be more experienced and also trained for the event.
Only a thought.....maybe it should be more experienced to least experienced to encourage other participants. But see what everyone else thinks first I suppose, you should get your 10 without much trouble anyway and I am pretty sure all the black belts will step forward on the day if they have not already put their name down beforehand, but lets see if anyone else wants to take part first as we know the black belts will not turn down a challenge as that goes without saying.
Also what do you consider least experienced, their grade or how many black eagle events they have done prior to your challenge?

Hi Lucy
My main reason for getting in some training, was that 20 minutes of continuous fighting sounds like a pretty sure fire way of taking a real beating to me!

I know why you would be doing the training, but I am just saying that perhaps people with less experience may not see the point in volunteering for something so painful against someone more expereinced.
The main reason being that there is not 10 people in the group more expereinced than you so some will without doubt be less experinced than yourself, so probably do not fancy being first on the list with less experience than you. Reason being you are in the higher ranks of RA and have participated in more BE than many of the other instructors too.
But I will start doing the ralley around for you now as I am sure we can find a few victims for you.
Who chooses what number someone should be?

That was why I posted the list of 10 numbers, to let people choose for themselves.
As to starting with the less experienced fighters and ending with the most experienced. That is the normal form in judo or kyokushinkai, it means than as you tire the opponents get stronger, making you summon previously untapped reserves.
Anyway, should be worth a watch for any willing spectators and cameramen

As I am one of the Chief Instructors and one of the longest running members of the Black Eagle Society after Pat and Shiraz and best camerawomen, would I be allowed position 10, or would that be Pats spot as the only one that is a higher rank and has done 2 more BE events than me. I suppose I could have position 9 then.....but as a girl and not a man, as I notice it is a 10 man line up, would I be considered less of an opponent and would it spoil your experiment because I do not mind just watching
I am going to put D'Hays name down for position 1 .

It's called exercise......You have probably used some muscles that have been laying dormant for a while. Most of them.
Maybe Ermar will volunteer to take your place? He gets very worried about you getting hurt.....hehehehe. Aahhhh! That is sooooo sweet.
I wish someone would be prepared to run to my rescue, just once. But until then I will look after myself.

Lol... exercise? I've only started doing that again only last month (Feb). I'm gonna do some hardcore training once I've recuperated. (Prolly just need a week to totally heal hehe). I can't believe I ran out of strength to keep on bashing Andy when one of his sticks fell to the floor. Was supposed to be my opportunity to punish. But my arms just went. ... so... yeh... I already have a goal for this year, fitness-wise. Grarr. I have most especially realized after the weekend, which bits of me to work on (everything! lol)
Ermar gets worried when I get hurt????? ... that is such a lie!!! You should see the bruises that I get when training with him. He's the devil incarnate... major major painful goddamned sun of a beach.... Satanas!! - Have you ever seen his eyes burning like fire when he switches into Demon mode? Errr.... *shivers* He shows no mercy.
Why? Won't Mistuh Pat run to your rescue? hehe....
If a rapist comes up to me to have a piece of me... he should be very afraid. He'd be lucky if I don't pull down his trousers first... drag him home, lock him up in my room and use and abuse him, wishing he'd never come up to me in the first place |

Hi Jon
if i can manage to be there at the camp this year i'll be more than happy to be of any help to you and participate in your 10men line (which have a kyokushin karate flavour i do admit to appreciate), assuming i'm not among the most experienced fighters, i'll choose plot number 3 |

Hi,
I don't mind fighting women, it's just that a 10 person line up sounds a bit daft.
I remember a couple of years ago walking out at a grading to fight a prospective black belt (expecting it to be Paul Smith); when I turned round it was Rebecca Kane (who is about 1/2 my size). She put up a damned good fight, and left me with a few good welts!
Here is how the line-up stands, any more takers?
