Well you know who you are!!
here's what you missed:
GM Diony Canete, at the age of 70(ish), jumping around and swinging a stick with the energy and grace of a man a third his age. And seeing as some of the attendees were actually a third his age, I know what I'm talking about!!
We were shown a large section of the San Miguel Style. Single stick corto original, espada y daga and of course the now standardised version of the form.
As if that wasn't enough to overload the little grey cells, he decided to also do Long stick, knife disarming, Corto sparring and tell bad jokes.
I'm sure there will be somebody more eloquent than I who will give a fuller report.
I'd just like to say a big thanks to the man. seeing Diony, Danny and Pat all bounce of each other, not forgetting Lucy and Shelly, filling the room with enthusiasm and demonstrating skill and knowledge that the rest of us mere mortals can only aspire to.
Well and trully worth taking a weekend off work and flying over from Dublin and hiring a car for.
It's a real shame there weren't more people there. The funny thing is as I looked around I recognised most of the attendees from the FMA festival a few months ago, ther were also a few who knew us from the Val Pableo seminar the previous year, didn't really see any new faces. Where are the rest of you??
Like i said, you know who you are!
Regards
Dave |

I totally agree with you, Dave. It was a fantastic weekend, the first time I've met Gm Diony, and what a fantastic guy he was. His ability and graceful movement at his age is an inspiration. It was nice to be helped out with San Miguel form by Pat, Lucy, and Shelley, as it is a hell of a long form!
My grey cells are still trying to get over the whole weekend. It was nice to catch up with friends over the weekend that I'm now getting to know in the fma world. I looking forward to going over to the Phillipines myself, and training at headquarters with Pat, Lucy, and the rest of you (you know who you are..)
All the guys who came with me have said what a great weekend they had. There was such a good atmosphere and felt very welcomed by all who were there. Some have been studying for quite some time, while others were quite new, but they all took something away, especially the inspiration to get better at it.
God Bless,
Keith |

I will agree that the weekend was worth every penny and then some!!
It was a once in a lifetime shot for me, so I am damn glad I went!
My only problem was when shelley felt the need to knock my hat off.....
whilest slapping me in the eye with her finger at the same time!
But even GM Canete liked my hat
But on a personal note; these weekends are getting better and better everytime just because of the quality of people who keep showing up!
HOOA!!

Damien, With regards to your hat: I was merely putting into action what everyone else was thinking!
I have to agree with Dave about the same people turning up to the FMA Festivals and Master Pableo seminars. I'm beginning to think there are only about 50 of us in the UK that do FMA!
It was great to see GM Canete again and I can't wait for the Philippines stop of the world tour next year! woo hoo! |

Hi all,
Well to say the event went well was an understatement, with nearly 70 participants I would say it was fantastic.
It was great to see the Supreme Grand Master (History Channel called him that which he found funny) at his usual inspring self was wonderfull, especially as he was teaching mainly the San Miguel System and the famous San Miguel Sayaw (form) of the Multi Style System, it was great to see a whole room do that form. And of course do a bit of the Cha Cha too
Yes many of the faces there were those who attended the Master Val event and the FMA festival, but hey, their gain and everyone elses loss I say.
What surprised and disgusted me is all those so called UK Doce Pares instructors out there that are quite happy to use Doce Pares and GM Diony's name to promote thenselves and could not be bothered to show, we had one guy (who aparently traine dwith me in Paris back in 1994) from France and what's more GM Diony came 10.000 miles. Now they have the cheek to call themselves Doce Pares, distgusting I say. But **** em there loss.
Anyway, apart from the loosers, we all had a blast, the long stick was awasome, the San Miguel Abecedarios, fantastic, the Sayaw outsatnding and everthing else, well top notch.
And the socialising was great too, I actually met a few old freinds whom I have known for over 25 years (who are also dedicated DP instructors unlike those who did not show) and we could not stop telling stories and laughing.
I was really proud to see Jacob Stewart being put up with Master Guba to perform te San Miguel Sayaw in front of everyone, he only made 2 mistakes and GM Diony asked him if he knew the Sayaw and he of course said no, not bad for a 14 year old eh!, Done me proud. And to see both Lucy and Shelley show everyone just how it should be done was inspiring.
Thanks all those who turned up and I am sure you all enjoyed yourselves and learnt some more, and for those of you who did not, well, we will talk later
Respects to all you attendees.

Besides; GM Canete liked, so you are all out ranked!
Pat, do ya reckon that's like when one of the GM's in the PI's was saying how 'good' ballet-arnis is?
that's what i reckon he meant anyway. |

If anyone be interested;
I have pics from this past weekend:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/10355435@N05/
If you so desire, you can copy and paste the photos to use as you see fit.
There is a set labeled R.A.L on the right hand side so you can just see fma pics if you don't relish the idea of going page by page.
Feel free to add comments names or anything you may seem fit.
