An explanation.
Alan Jones and myself brought Bobby Taboada’s Balintawak into the UK 12 or 14 years ago if not longer (not very good on dates) and we were training partners for a long time. Ian Hallam became Alan’s training partner and Bill Murray became mine. This taught us how to teach Balintawak better. We have never pushed ourselves “out there” or the Balintawak until recently.
Bobby Taboada's last visit opened up a new chapter for us! The absolute cleverness of the teaching method which fell into line with what our good friend Willie Lim once said “what do you want it to be” this statement when you truly understand it is what makes Balintawak unique or indeed everything you do or are.
It is great to see Alan aligned with BCKEAI and other practicing FMA’s his influence can only be a good thing. Our aim is to promote and elevate Balintawak and especially the teaching method. Alan is a very good instructor, always has been this includes his Wado days. We have walked much of the same path and I believe we will continue to do so, this is an art we are passionate about.
We are the same group even though we are Balintawak UK and Alan goes under British Balintawak we have the same mentor and teacher in Balintawak and we also have the experience to find our own answers.
Sometimes I feel we are misunderstood, people confuse our confidence for arrogance. We know where we are on the “map” and where we want to go to next, a lot of people cannot even read the “map” (this is usually not there fault). Maybe we can help them out on that one, unless they wish to follow the leader without even being shown the “map”.
Where ever we go or train with in our search for the answers we still have to be able to understand the answers for ourselves. My saying is SEEK THE TRUTH MAINTAIN THE POWER. |

Thanks for that insight Richard and welcome to the Forum. I am sure we will hear more about Balintawak in the UK in the next coouple of years.
And about time too I say.
I find that those who mistake confidence ofr arrogance are usually lacking in confidence themselves and because of this they try to blam others for their own misfortune.
There is nothing wrong in being confident in what you do.
Best regards
